Old time fiddle player, square dance caller, flat foot dancer, and aspiring guitar-banjo-singer. I have been collaborating with the string band The Black Twig Pickers for the past two years, and calling dances in Blacksburg VA and Lewisburg, WV.
The style of music I play is traditional to the mountains of southern Appalachia, and is a hybrid music with influences from the British Isles, German, Jewish, Native American, and African American traditions. Mike Seeger describes it as "rural-style music of the late 19th and early 20th century America and its closest descendants".
I mostly play tunes from Virginia and West Virginia, with some eastern Kentucky tunes thrown in. As a fiddler, I am interested in rhythm, drive and making people dance. I try to stay true to these tune's origins when possible.
